There are three main work from home groups. The three main work at home groups consist of work from home employees, work from home contractors and work at home business operators. Each work from home group takes different types of personalities, commitment levels and work ethic traits to succeed. The three work at home groups share many of the same common advantages and disadvantages of working from home. They can also have extreme differences when it comes to the actual work duties performed.
 
Work at home business operators are individuals who run businesses from home. The types of home businesses vary greatly, from providing and promoting their own product(s) to running a product provided turn-key website. Advantages to having a work from home business include working when you want, being your own boss, earning as much as you want, and of course being able to work from the comfort of home. Disadvantages include possibility of long work days and being completely responsible for business functions. Work at home business owners usually have strong work ethics, are self-starters and have a drive to be successful. 
 
Types of work at home employee based jobs vary from customer service jobs to educationally based work at home jobs. Advantages to having a work at home job include being paid hourly/salary, possibility of benefits such as health insurance and a 401k plan, and working from the comfort of your own home. Disadvantages could include set hours, low pay and having to deal with a boss. Work at home employees usually are most interested in receiving a steady paycheck and do not want to deal with the stresses of home business ownership.
 
Work at home contractors receive pay for the work they complete. Types of work at home contractor based employment are similar to the jobs performed by employee based workers. An examples of a work at home contractor jobs would be getting paid to take surveys or test new products or mystery shopping. Advantages to working as a work at home contractor include setting their own hours, working whenever they want for as long as they want, earning as much as they want and no boss to deal with. Disadvantages could include lack of benefits and no guarantee of a steady paycheck. Work at home contractors usually are the type of people who work as much as possible in order to maximize their earning potential.
